City of Green joins Power A Clean Future Ohio

(GREEN, OH)— At the September 13, 2022, Green City Council meeting, council members voted unanimously to adopt a resolution joining Power a Clean Future Ohio. Power A Clean Future Ohio is a nonpartisan coalition and campaign dedicated to working with local communities to develop equitable clean energy solutions to benefit the well-being of residents, the environment, and the economy. PCFO will work with local leaders and the city’s Living Green Task Force by providing technical assistance and a network of partnerships to implement best practices in buildings and facilities management, land use and transportation planning, and economic and community development in the City of Green.

“Becoming a Power a Clean Future Ohio community connects us with other communities that are doing similar work, giving us the ability to create a network and communicate about best practices,” said Councilperson Jeff Noble, who serves as Council Liaison to the Living Green Task Force. “I support this fully along with the Living Green Task Force who voted unanimously to support this endeavor.”

The Living Green Task Force, celebrating its 10th year, has implemented a broad range of initiatives to promote sustainable energy practices including the installation of EV charging stations (clean energy), municipal building and facility energy projects (energy efficiency), Tree City USA (clean air), the Growing Green Wetland and Lichtenwalter Rain Garden (green infrastructure), Southgate Farm (local sustainable food), roundabout construction (safety, emissions reduction), and other such initiatives to build a resilient Green.

“Local governments have a unique opportunity to promote and provide awareness around clean energy,” said Terry Hogan, Living Green Task Force chair.  “Being a Power A Clean Future Ohio community gives us the flexibility to implement clean power in ways that make sense for Green and it also connects us with the funding opportunities that allow us to move our ideas forward.”

With the passage of this resolution, the City of Green became the 39th community to join Power a Clean Future Ohio. More than one-third of Ohio residents now live in a community or county that is part of the Power a Clean Future Ohio initiative.

Joe Flarida, executive director of Power a Clean Future Ohio said, “Power a Clean Future Ohio aims to provide Ohio communities support on their respective pathways to carbon emission reductions based on implementing practical policies that work for the individual community and region. Due to the multiple environmental, economic, and social dimensions of this work, we are excited to work with both the Living Green Task Force leadership and the administration alongside community members and the private sector to ensure success.”
