Geneva joins Power a Clean Future Ohio, becoming 42nd community in Ohio and 1st in Ashtabula County

(COLUMBUS, OH)—City of Geneva Councilmembers recently voted to unanimously adopt a resolution joining Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO), furthering the community’s commitment to improving sustainability and becoming the first community in Ashtabula County to join.  PCFO will work with local leaders to provide technical assistance and partnerships to help staff as they work toward the goal of adopting clean energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in ways that also save local tax payers money.

Existing initiatives involve funding an upgrade to various areas of the city to provide energy efficiency to residents over the next year.  These include automating heating and cooling systems and city lighting upgrades to LED including streetlights. Additionally, the City Council Sustainability and Shade Tree Commissions are working on developing long term plans to guide future decision making.

With passage of this resolution, Geneva became the 42nd community to join Power a Clean Future Ohio.  More than one-third of Ohio residents now live in a PCFO Community, demonstrating the overwhelming commitment Ohioans and Ohio local governments have to creating a clean energy future for our state.

Cassandra Clevenger, Deputy Director of Power a Clean Future Ohio said, “Power a Clean Future Ohio is proud to partner with local leaders to expand the incredible sustainability work being led by local leaders through support from our technical assistance program which provides municipal governments tools and resources to take action to reduce emissions and make investments in clean energy.  When communities work together to create and implement achievable plans with measurable goals toward a clean energy future, they also enhance the quality of life for residents and their neighbors, positively impact our economic well-being, and protect our environment for future generations.”

“I support this action by the Geneva City Council to join Power a Clean Future Ohio. A focus on sustainable policies can deliver cost savings and a healthier future for our residents,” said Joseph Varckette, city manager of Geneva.

“We are excited to become the first member of Power a Clean Future Ohio in Ashtabula County. We look forward to partnering with them to advance green energy policies and to create sustainability plans that continue to make Geneva a great place to live and work,” said Jeffery Griffiths, City Councilman and chair of the Sustainability Commission, Shade Tree Committee and Streets Committee.

Power a Clean Future Ohio is a nonpartisan coalition that is dedicated to working with local communities to develop equitable clean energy solutions to benefit the well-being of residents, the environment, and the economy.
