Bowling Green Joins Power a Clean Future Ohio, Becoming the 54th Ohio Community to Advance Local Climate Leadership
Following the passage of a recent City Council resolution, the City of Bowling Green has officially joined Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) as the nonprofit’s 54th member community. By joining PCFO, Bowling Green can now leverage free technical assistance and expert support to expand the City’s capacity in advancing practical, community-driven sustainability solutions.
Through this new partnership, Bowling Green aims to accelerate efforts to reduce local emissions in accordance with existing goals for net-zero emissions from electricity production and city operations. PCFO’s resources and strategic guidance will help the City more effectively evaluate projects, design long-term climate initiatives, and implement measures tailored to Bowling Green’s goals and priorities.
City leaders emphasized that partnering with PCFO will help Bowling Green take its sustainability work to the next level. PCFO’s support will allow the City to implement strategies identified in the existing Climate Action and Resiliency Improvement Plan, while identifying new opportunities, monitoring progress, and refining greenhouse gas emissions data.
“Joining Power a Clean Future Ohio enhances our ability to embrace sustainable solutions that make sense for Bowling Green,” said Rachel Sizer, City of Bowling Green Sustainability Coordinator. “PCFO’s technical expertise will help us build on our past sustainability achievements and implement new goals to strengthen our capacity to reduce emissions, steward our resources responsibly, and improve quality of life across the community.”
Joe Flarida, Executive Director of Power a Clean Future Ohio, welcomed the City’s decision. “We’re thrilled to have Bowling Green join PCFO and expand our work in the region,” said Flarida. “The City’s commitment to thoughtful leadership in sustainability sets a powerful example. We look forward to supporting Bowling Green as it develops and advances clean energy and climate objectives.”
Bowling Green is the first PCFO member community in Wood County and the 54th community in Ohio working with PCFO to reduce carbon emissions, improve resilience, and build healthier, more sustainable places to live and work. Together, these communities represent a growing movement of local leaders taking meaningful action toward a cleaner energy future for Ohio.
