PCFO Congratulates Governor-elect Amy Acton, Looks to New Administration for Lower Energy Costs

Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) congratulates Governor-elect Amy Acton on her election victory. PCFO looks forward to engaging with the new administration to increase energy affordability and reliability in Ohio, and build a clean energy future that works for all Ohioans.

“We would like to recognize Governor-elect Amy Acton for a hard-fought victory in this gubernatorial race,” said PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida. “As Ohioans continue to be squeezed by the energy affordability crisis and growing utility profits, voters made clear that these issues matter. Now, they look to the incoming administration to find practical solutions to lower costs and improve the quality and reliability of service from their utilities.”

“Governor-elect Acton has the opportunity to unleash the market and build Ohio clean energy projects that can lower rates and create jobs,” Flarida added. “PCFO stands ready to work with our state government in collaboration with our local government leaders to build a clean energy future for our state.”

From July 2025 to July 2026, residential electric rates in Ohio have risen by roughly 12%, and 24% over the past 3 years. Meanwhile, the state’s major investor-owned utilities continue to report significant earnings growth each year.

PCFO recognizes that energy affordability and utility accountability have been among the most dire issues experienced by Ohioans over the past year, and identifying practical solutions to reduce rates and improve service reliability for local governments, businesses, and residents is critical. PCFO will continue supporting efforts to increase access to clean energy that catalyze local jobs and investment while improving local health outcomes, diversifying our already strained grid, and providing much needed relief to communities and families.

PCFO encourages Governor-elect Acton to appoint leaders to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) who put ratepayers first, and support local officials advocating on behalf of their constituents amid an energy affordability crisis. PCFO welcomes the opportunity to be a resource to the incoming administration, as we continue our work helping communities identify solutions that help shape Ohio’s clean energy future.

PCFO also would also like to congratulate Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne on his re-election, and Cincinnati City Council Member Meeka Owens for winning her election to serve on the Hamilton County Commission. Throughout his time as Cuyahoga County Executive, Ronayne has been a passionate advocate of clean energy and sustainable solutions. Council Member Owens was first elected to Cincinnati City Council in 2021 and chairs the Climate, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee, one of the first local government committees in the nation to prioritize climate change.
