City of Fairfield Joins PCFO, Strengthening Sustainability Commitment
The City of Fairfield has officially joined Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) as its 52nd member community after passing a resolution during a recent City Council meeting. By partnering with PCFO, Fairfield will gain access to free technical assistance, resources, and policy guidance to advance cost-effective strategies that cut carbon emissions, reduce energy costs, and build a healthier future for residents.
Joining PCFO aligns directly with the City’s sustainability action plan, Fairfield Sustains, which was adopted by the City Council in September 2024. This plan serves as a comprehensive roadmap for addressing and improving environmental, economic, and livability considerations for all residents. The City has also recently established a volunteer-driven Sustainability Commission that will review projects, advise City Council, and contribute to public education efforts.
“By joining PCFO, Fairfield is demonstrating true leadership and a commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable future,” said PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida. “We’re eager to support Fairfield in building on the city’s well-established leadership in advancing projects that reduce emissions, cut costs, and deliver long-term benefits for their residents. Smart leaders prioritize sustainability for the benefits it provides to all and that is exactly what Fairfield’s city leadership is doing.”
“Partnering with Power a Clean Future Ohio is an exciting step forward for our sustainability work,” said Mayor Mitch Rhodus. “We’re committed to ensuring that families, businesses, and future generations all have the opportunity to thrive here in Fairfield, and this partnership will help us identify practical solutions to make that vision a reality.”
“Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing efficiency, and improving community wellness are key components of the Fairfield Sustains plan,” said Gillian Hart, Sustainability Program Manager. “We’re confident that this partnership with PCFO will support our current sustainability efforts but also help us identify and implement new solutions that benefit the entire community.”
Since 2020, PCFO has partnered with 52 communities across Ohio to cut emissions and advance clean energy initiatives. Today, communities representing nearly 44% of Ohio’s population are part of this network, each working toward a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future.
