PCFO Welcomes Springfield as Newest Member Community
Springfield, OH, September 10, 2025 – Following the passage of a resolution before the City Commission, the City of Springfield has officially joined Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) as its newest member community. By partnering with PCFO, Springfield will have access to free technical assistance services, resources, and policy support to help pursue achievable, equitable, and economical strategies to reduce carbon emissions and grow the clean energy economy.
“We are excited to support Mayor Rue, the city staff, and the entire Springfield community in uplifting their current sustainability initiatives and identifying new strategies that will benefit all residents,” said PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida. “At a time when energy prices are rising rapidly, Springfield is choosing to do something about it and we look forward to working with them to identify every clean energy cost saving measure possible.”
Springfield’s leaders emphasized that the partnership with PCFO will help the city expand capacity and pursue practical initiatives that align with their sustainability and economic goals.
“Springfield is proud to join Power a Clean Future Ohio and use this partnership to strengthen our capacity for the important work ahead,” said Mayor Rob Rue. “This collaboration will help us share our story, identify new opportunities for smart growth, and position our city for long-term success.”
“As we plan for the future, we know that sustainability and economic vitality go hand-in-hand,” said Bryan Heck, City Manager. “PCFO’s expertise will help us pursue projects that evaluate energy infrastructure and support new technologies that will benefit Springfield residents today and in the years to come.”
“This partnership gives us added support to address critical challenges, from managing resources to strengthening our infrastructure and reducing costs,” added Jason Via, Deputy Director of Public Safety & Operations. “Together with PCFO, we can take meaningful steps to build a more resilient and sustainable Springfield.”
Since launching in 2020, PCFO has partnered with over 50 cities, counties, villages, and towns across Ohio. Today, roughly 44% of Ohio’s population lives in PCFO communities, each working toward a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future.
