Climate Champion, Governor Jay Inslee To Deliver Keynote Address at PCFO’s Clean Energy Champions Awards

Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) is excited to announce that former Governor of Washington and climate champion Jay Inslee is set to deliver the keynote address at the organization’s Clean Energy Champions Awards at Ohio State University on October 8.

“We are thrilled to have Governor Inslee headline our Clean Energy Champions Awards,” said PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida. “Governor Inslee’s leadership has laid a pathway for what is possible when you embrace a pragmatic approach to building a better economy that embraces clean energy, prioritizes our environment and the health of the people. We’re eager for this opportunity to share his insights with the communities and leaders working to shape Ohio’s clean energy future.”

Over the past thirty years, Governor Inslee has provided bold leadership at the local, state, and federal levels that has demonstrated the powers of innovation and inspiration to move our communities forward. More recently, his leadership as the three-term governor of Washington State has led to unprecedented success in building a clean energy economy, fighting climate change, and improving opportunities for working families in Washington.

Throughout his three terms, Governor Inslee established Washington as a leading state for climate action and a beacon of progress. Inslee created the Climate Commitment Act and launched nation-leading policies related to 100% clean energy, clean buildings, and clean transportation.

“While the federal government tries to turn back the clock on energy progress, states like Ohio have an opportunity to lead on clean energy policy that lowers costs and moves us to a cleaner future,” said Governor Inslee. “In the Buckeye State and around the country, people are demanding more low-cost clean energy to decrease their energy bills and tackle climate change. I’m honored to share some stories of how Washington state became a national leader on clean energy and to hear from Ohio leaders about what’s happening in their communities."

The Clean Energy Champions Awards is Power a Clean Future Ohio’s signature biennial event that recognizes outstanding local leaders and communities across the state for their accomplishments in equitably achieving carbon emissions and implementing clean energy solutions. In 2024, The Cities of Youngstown and Lima, and Cuyahoga County received the organization’s marquee awards for their accomplishments championing energy justice, and innovations in clean energy and environmental stewardship.
